DiVersity

Perhaps it was inevitable that V Magazine for Women would promote diversity. With a founding staff that includes a Glenn Beck listener, a Barack Obama campaign volunteer, and an Independent, we live diversity daily. More important than political affiliation, however, is that we embrace a mission that consciously celebrates all women, that we hold a firm belief that by accepting and celebrating the differences, we all benefit.
In the pages of V, diversity means more than just a woman’s complexion. It’s her interests, her lifestyle, her politics. As long as her choices are not trampling upon someone else’s choices, we celebrate her in V Magazine for Women. Someone once told one of our account executives, “Oh, you’re that lesbian magazine.” My reply: “Yes, and we’re that straight magazine, the athletes’ magazine, the artists’ magazine, the African-Americans’ magazine, the businesswomen’s magazine and the at-home moms’ magazine….”
The month of April hosts a reminder of what happens when diversity is not respected. During Holocaust Remembrance Month, we see the awful evils that have been committed when people are judged, persecuted, and murdered for inconsequential differences. Lest we become too complacent, thinking that such atrocities are far away in time, place, and magnitude, remember that small prejudices lead to big evils. By supporting an attitude of acceptance, we can all help quell and mitigate the hatred that exists today.
In honor of the importance of diversity, we at V have created a new shirt, our Diversi-T Shirt, with a quote by politician and activist Angela Davis: “If they come for me in the morning, they will come for you in the evening.”
Race, religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation, philosophy – by keeping our laws free for every individual and by nurturing our support of diversity – by agreeing to disagree – can we keep society safe for all of us, including you and your children.
To see our Diversi-T’s, available in a variety of sizes and styles, of course, visit our “What’s Your V Word?” store. During the month of April, 10% of all proceeds benefit the Virginia Holocaust Museum.
And help us celebrate the diVersity of all women!

Without even seeing “AShopping Experience Worth Bragging About” I happened upon the website for Optimized Cable Co. and ordered a nice short Ultra high speed HDMI cable for about a quarter of the price asked by retailers. I ordered it on a Friday night from my laptop while on vacation. It arrived at my home the following Friday and I replaced the long, messy and usually unreliable cables provided by my cable company with the new HDMI cable in about 30 seconds. My whole living room looks better without the six pronged cable and my HD box is working great. So I ordered a second one for our office TV and with a promised 33% discount it’s like a gift. Thanks, Optimized Cable!
